May 29 - I will take the dreaded DAT, the entrance exam for dental schools, which is considered a graduate program here in the USA. The DAT stands apart from the usual GRE for graduate schools in that it is geared toward understanding the natural sciences (biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry) as well as perceptual ability (i.e. visualization and rotation of complex 3D objects mentally). If I can ace this test, or at least score in the competitive range, I will apply to dental schools this summer, and hopefully gain admission for 2013 or 2014, and be a dentist by 2017/2018! Needless to say I'm very apprehensive; never have I been so nervous in my life!! Hereafter I won't discuss anything dental related out of fear of jinxing my chances!
Starting in June - I will resume my position as a biological research assistant (I began in August 2011), only this time with a new focus and with a grant that I received, in other words, for $$$! Under the suggestion of my mentor, I wrote a proposal titled "In vivo Protein Synthesis Profiling in Brachionus manjavacas" which was reviewed by my institution and deemed worthy enough to fund! I feel very proud of having the honor to receive a science grant!
The rest of the summer will be spent volunteering at dental clinics and of course, completing the applications to dental schools. I will apply everywhere from the single dental school here in Georgia, to NYU, Harvard, Boston; pretty much everywhere. It's really both scary and exciting to think about at the same time. My 20 years of life has lead up to this year!
Last but not least, I do expect to make several deviantART updates across the summer months, as I've mentioned before. I want to make the best of this summer, my final summer as an undergraduate, sort of a milestone in my life. That means I'll try my best to deliver several updates, more than the measely 1-2 contributions I've made in 2010 and 2011. I must thank those who've stuck around after all this time!
How's your summer going to be? Awesome I hope.
Take care!
